Mission Statement

There is an entire universe of expression and beauty between C and C-sharp on the piano. Yet, this universe is typically not tapped into. No concert organization in the Midwest exists yet to explore this universe, until now.

MidwestMicrofest is dedicated to exploring the current and historical frontiers of music written and performed in alternative tunings. We intend to fill a much needed gap in the musical life of the Midwest. Both coasts of the United States have a significant amount of organized concert activity through festivals centered around music performed in alternative tuning systems (tunings which are not the standard 12-equal steps to the octave), while the Midwest lacks such a festival and organization.

The goal of midwestmicrofest.org is to be a non-profit promoter and central organizational body of compositional and concert activity for the Chicago metro area, and the surrounding Midwest. We intend to bridge the coasts by bringing artists from other areas of the U.S., as well as fostering the growth of alternate tuning activity here in the Midwest.
